Safety Section Amusement Rides
We all love a carnival or a fair with the smells of cotton candy, peanuts and candy apples. The bright lights and noises of the midway all lend to the excitement of a warm summer evening in Small Town, West Virginia. But the real fun is watching your kids climb on the Merry-go-Round, or the excitement of strapping into the Scrambler or riding the Ferris Wheel with your best friend. We all assume the rides are safe – after all, they cater to the kids…OK, the adults too!
The Division of Labor provides oversight for the inspections of most amusement rides and attractions in West Virginia. Every ride and attraction is required by West Virginia Code to be inspected prior to its first use in the State each calendar year. Look for a 4”X 4” decal with the current year punched to indicate the ride has a valid permit to operate. Then climb on and have fun!
